Reflection for my N175 course

There are many things I learned in this course N 175 such as listening, reading and writing. In this course helped us Mr. Gregory to development of the individual skills. Before this course I was hoping that come a teacher like Mr. Gregory to help me to overcome the problems that I am encountering in the study. Now, after this tired I hope when I go to take the IELTS exam that 5.5 exam, And if I could not do so I will try in the next year, but I hope he stays the Mr. Gregory teaching because it helps the person to improve himself, and I thank him from the depths of my heart for this assistance.



Etisalat censoring websites



In the UAE the Etisalat company blocks some sites because there are some people who use these sites for bad uses. And these uses are not good for the UAE. There are some people opposed to this thing and there are others for. This essay will examine the pros and cons of media control in the UAE.

There are several arguments in favor of the Etisalat company having blocks on some sites. The first argument is that some people are using the internet to spread some things on the unethical sites. This problem is very important, because this damages the reputation of the country. Another argument is that censorship can be used to prevent politically motivated propaganda. There are many forms of propaganda that talks about politics in the wrong way. Yet another argument is that censorship can protect children from learning things that could harm them. There are many channels that can destroy children’s thinking.

Also there are many arguments that disagree with censorship. The first argument is that it is used to control people. There are many people who do not feel comfortable when you watch them. Another argument is that it can be used to distract or hide truths from the people. There are many news channels used in this way to distract the people. There are many good arguments for and against censorship.

In conclusion, I agree that censorship is important for us and protects from anything that is harmful. Hopefully this remains so.

Assessment



Some say examinations are an unfair way of assessment and should not be used at the HCT. I think the examination is important and should be used at the HCT. The examination at HCT has both positive and negative aspects. In this essay I will look at the examinations at HCT and discuss both sides of the argument.

First testing is fair, because all the students take the same test, and are assessed equally. Secondly, testing is a good way to determine what students have learned in the course. On the other hand, this will encourage students to work harder and will give them good feedback on their understanding of the subject.

Now let us look at whether examinations are unnecessary. They cause nervousness and testing doesn’t fulfill the purpose as students get lower grades because they feel unwell. Another point is that the examinations are not a fair way of giving grades, since students should be graded on their classroom assignments. Yet another supporting point is some exams are poorly written and are culturally biased against non western students. For example, some exams written by western teachers for a western audience are biased and non westerners will score lower due to this bias.

In conclusion, I think the examinations at HCT are important and the supporting points are stronger than the negative points.

Visitors to Canada



The graph shows the fluctuation in the number of visitors to Canada from Spain and Japan between 1996 and 2006. Overall, there was a large change in the number of visitors to Canada in the decade.

Starting in 1996, there was a significant difference in the number of visitors from Spain to Canada. There were almost 300,000 Spanish visitors, compared to 850,000 Japanese visitors. The number of visitors from Japan was 800,000, while 250,000 came from Spain in 1996. The number of Spanish visitors as shown in the graph differed from the number Japanese visitors by 50%. Also, the number of Spanish visitors was the highest in 2004 and the lowest in 1996. Moreover, the number of Spanish visitors grew significantly. Between 1996 and 1999 the visitors from Spain sharply increased to 620,000 visitors. The fewest number of visitors from Spain was in 1996. The number of Japanese visitors remained steady from 1996 to 2001. In 1999 the number of Japanese visitors gradually decreased. On the other hand, the number of Spanish visitors sharply decreased.

In conclusion, the number of Japanese visitors to Canada outnumbered the Spanish visitors during the 10 year period.

Workers coming to Dubai

The graph shows the fluctuation in the number of workers from UK and Canada coming to work in Dubai between 1990 and 2006.

The biggest change was in the number of workers coming to Dubai from Canada. In 1990 there were only 10,000 workers who came to Dubai from the UK. From 1990 to 1994 the number of workers increased slightly from each country. In the next three years, the Canadian workers and UK were equals at about 65 thousand. From 1997 to 2002, Canadian workers coming to Dubai continued to rise and it rose to about 85 thousand and the UK numbers rose slightly to 70 thousand in 2002. There was a slight rise in Canadian workers in the 2004 and there was an increase from the UK. Finally, the Canadian workers and United Kingdom workers ended equal at about 90,000 in 2006.

In conclusion, the Canadian and UK workers rose to 90,000 in total respectively. The Canadian workers rose by 80 thousand and those from the UK rose by about 50,000 in total.

#5 Mobile phones- argument

There are some who drive dangerously while using a mobile phone and then they might have an accident. The mobile phone is a good means of communication but when you use this while driving it will be dangerous for anyone sitting with you. I think the mobile phone use has pros and con sides and I will discuss both sides.

First, when you use mobile phone if it’s illegal than police can stop you or everyone using on the road. If there is a law then police are able to enforce it and give people tickets. Another pro point is that the accident percentage will go down. If the people aren’t using their mobile phone then they will concentrate on their driving. Yet another pro point is that the traffic fines will help pay for traffic safety programs.

Let us talk now about the con points when you use mobile phone. First, if you have an important call, and you don’t have your headphone you can answer the phone later. Another con point is that you can stop and complete your call on the side of the road, but you can still talk from your car. Yet another point against is that businessmen need to talk on their phones while going to an appointment.

In conclusion, the against points are more than the supporting points, so using mobile phone while you driving is very dangerous. In my opinion people should be use mobiles only in an emergency, and not for chatting to friends while driving.

Sports Injuries

This is a table which gives information about sports injuries. There are 10 different sports; the Australian football is exposed to more serious injuries.

The highest number of sports injuries is Australian football, it has 10,122 injuries. The percentage of total sports injuries is 24.5% and those who are admitted to hospital is about 7.5%. The second highest sport injuries is soccer and has a 9.2 percentage and some of them are admitted to hospital at 7.1%. The sport that has the average percentage of the injuries is cricket, basketball, netball and hockey. They have 8.3%, 7.8% and 3.0% for percentage of sports injuries. Surprisingly enough, martial arts is at 8^th place in the list, with 882 as a number of injuries at around 2.1% and 5.6% hospital admissions, and hockey at 7^th, which is less than expected.

In conclusion, the two main sports that show up more than once on this table as highest are Australian, because it has highest number of injuries, and rugby because it has the highest percentage of hospital admissions.

The area of the UAE

The pie graph shows four regions in the UAE by square kilometer. Overall, the total area is 77,700 sq\cm with all Emirates.

First, Abu Dhabi is the largest of the UAE parts and covers around 67,000 square kilometers which is over half the total land area. Second in size is Dubai, which encompasses 5 percent of the country. Third in size is Sharjah, which encompasses 3.3 percent of the country. The other two parts, Ras Al khaimah and Fujairah are smaller than both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. They have areas of 1,689 square kilometers and 1,165 square kilometers respectively. Together they make up only 3.7 percent of the UAE. The last two parts are Umm Al Quain and Ajman is much smaller than either Emirates.

In summary, Abu Dhabi is the largest region in the UAE and the remaining are significantly smaller than Abu Dhabi.

Fast food in the UAE

In the past people used to eat good food like camel meat and fish, but now people are not eating at same as in the past. People now eat different foods like fast food such as Mc Donald’s, KFC and Burger King. This is a complex problem and this change has had many causes and effects.

There are many reasons for why almost all people in the UAE eat fast food everyday. One of these is lifestyle. Many people in the UAE work all day long and they do not have time to go back home to eat there. At the same time some women work and do not cook in the home for her husband. Another reason is money. Many young people in the UAE if they have money do not take care of themselves and they go to the restaurant and eat spicy fast food. Yet another reason is the modern life. Now, some people want try new foods, these things come from advertising and this is a major reason for increased fast food consumption.

Fast food also has many effects. One of the most important is on health. When everyone eats fast food everyday it will cause disease and obesity. Another serious effect is that diabetes and then high blood pressure is increasing. Yet another serious effect is on the family. Everyone does not eat with his family, and be feels uncomfortable. The last serious effect is the economy. The young people in the UAE should not waste money on fast food.

In conclusion, fast food is quick and tasty, but in the same time has bad effects. In the future people should choose carefully what they eat as the best food. 

Reasons for Choosing University

The chart shows 11 reasons why first year student from overseas chose a particular university. The survey of 1000 first year overseas students was carried out at universities in the UK. The top three reasons are language of tuition, quality of teachers, and up-to-date teaching facilities.

According to the graph, the main reason is the language of tuition. At 95%of the sample, it was quality of teachers, at 90%, followed by facilities, also at 90%.

Non-teaching factors were also important. Tuition costs were quoted as a reason by 75%, and location was mentioned by 70% of students. The cost of accommodation is also an important factor for 80% of respondents. Almost two-thirds of students said that the friendliness of university was important.

In conclusion the various factors can be divided into two groups, namely those related to teaching and non-teaching related. However, the most important are the language and the teachers.

Obesity in the UAE

Obesity in the UAE affects people about the ages of not less than 14 years and not more than 27 years. It's not healthy that obesity begins at this age. The most affected groups are students from school because most of their time to be inactive and do not invest in themselves. The causes and solutions of obesity are discussed here.

There are many reasons for why some people in the UAE are exposed to obesity. One of these reasons is their lifestyle. Many people in the UAE have money and do not care where they eat, and some of them work, so they do not have time to eat at home and go to restaurants to eat fast food. Another reason why people in the UAE are exposed to obesity is in their diet. Most young people in the UAE eat too much fast food in the restaurant and do not take care of themselves. Yet another reason is the education, most people do not care about what their children is eating. These people must learn how to make their children eat healthy food.

There are several things that can be done to solve these problems. Change your lifestyle, exercise is a nice solution to fix many problems and you can learn to eat a healthy diet. At the end the best solution is to educate people about healthy eating especially young people.

In conclusion most young people must learn how to eat healthy food and exercise to have a happy life. Hopefully, we can solve this problem in the near future.
